Keisha Dixon, PhD
Being Clinician

  • Supervised by Dr. Ankhesenamun Ball

I am a proud graduate of Palo Alto University, (formerly known as PGSP) which is an APA Stanford Affiliated Program. At such a prestigious University, I had the opportunity to learn social psychology from Dr. Zimbardo. Additionally, I learned the MMPI from Dr. Greene, these two innovators made the field of psychology go beyond what anyone could’ve imagined, paving the way for some of the ways we practice psychology today.

Currently, I am a licensed-eligible Associate Clinical Psychologist and an Alcohol and Drug Counselor with extensive training in clinically based best practices for a gamut of clinical presentations and age groups from preschool to geriatric populations. My specific area of expertise has mainly been to explore the relational dynamics of Children & Families within diverse underserved communities while identifying barriers to treatment such as trauma in combination with dual diagnosis. I have experience with trauma-informed treatment, cultural sensitivities, diagnostic assessments, clinical interviewing and conducting mental status examinations, administration, interpretation, as well as professional report writing.

I have experience treating clinical presentations of anxiety disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, substance abuse/ dependence, and intimate working knowledge of families and couples dealing with attachment disorders. Over the last decade, experiences have taught me a variety of clinical lessons which I’m humbled and honored by. Depending upon the length of time one works with the client, long or short term each relationship creates a shift systemically.

My desire is to work collaboratively with clients regarding issues that may be impacting their ability to be in sound mental health. We have minds, wills & emotions however when not aligned the impact may disrupt our ability to attend to our present. Working together effectively with a treatment team creating interruptions in cycles of maladaptive behavior with eclectic treatment approaches is the optimal approach.

I’m excited for the opportunity to work collaboratively with clientele who are motivated and committed to change their being.

  • "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
    -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Dr. Ball is an experienced, culturally supportive, licensed clinical psychologist. She obtained her doctorate from the California School of Professional Psychology, SF where she was trained in forensics and neuropsychology. Dr. Ball spent many of her early years providing assessment and psychotherapy services to foster youth and those in juvenile detention centers. Overwhelmed by the intense trauma, injustices within the justice system, and the staggering number of black and brown youth in juvenile detention centers, she turned her focus to parenting/family support and education. She has used neuropsychological assessment as a tool to explain differences in behavior and learning and to transform negative perceptions into positive ones. Currently, Her primary clinical focus has been on eradicating the preschool to prison pipeline which targets youth as young as 3.

Dr. Ball is the founder of Being Integrative Clinical Solutions, a small group practice that serves youth and their families. Additionally, she moderates Togetherwell's Third Thursday discussions on tough subjects of race, discrimination, and other challenges that mental health professionals support clients through. She often provides talks on culturally appropriate Neuropsychological Assessment with people of color, Racism and Trauma, Anxiety, and How to Manage Stress. Dr. Ball recently launched a parenting workshop series on various topics from Understanding Mental Health to How to Know If My Child Is Depressed. She currently serves as the president of the Northern California Neuropsych Forum.

Dr. Ball strives to stay abreast of the latest advances in cognitive and neuropsychological assessment, as well as, psychological treatments and neuropsychological research. Her work is patient-centered as opposed to adhering to a particular theoretical orientation. She believes that no therapy can offer a one-size-fits-all approach and that treatment must be adjusted based on the needs of the patient. For therapy, she utilizes a blend of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and my assessment training to fully understand a patient’s needs. Dr. Ball’s experience allows her to help patients understand how unresolved issues from the past can disturb their ability to live comfortably in the present and can impact the future.

For psychological assessment, Dr. Ball uses the Boston Process Approach to determine the areas of your life that are impacted by brain neuroatypical development or brain damage. She will use such data to create a robust treatment plan that supports youth and adults in being the best person that they can be for many years to come. “Whether it is for academic, vocational, or forensic purposes, I strive to help individuals, families, and treatment teams understand what is going on? and how to best manage those challenges.”

Your choice to enter into therapy indicates a desire to work through difficult challenges that are impacting your daily life. At times therapy can be intense but is often rewarding. Our own fears can hold us back and prevent us from making necessary changes in our lives. If you allow me the opportunity, I will help you to create emotional balance so you can get back to the more important factors of life. Work, Love, and Play.
